• work smart – You think the internet marketing pros spend their time chasing after unprofitable keywords, or trying to guess what keyword phrases to build their website around? The answer is no, they work smart and understand that search engine optimization is foundation on which every other part of their website or blog is designed around. Every page or blog post, every article submission is decided by the ability to get top search engine positioning for the particular keyword that the article or blog post is written about. It takes just as much effort to write a new blog post about a badly optimized keyword as it does for a good keyword. I typically spend one day per week just on keyword analysis for the phrases that I want to target. During that time I will usually come up with 6-8 keyword phrases and those are the phrases I use for the articles or blog posts for that particular week. By making sure everything you do is “smart” you will see success much quicker.
• put forth consistent effort and work hard – The vast majority of internet marketers make a token effort for success for a few weeks, and then let their blogs or websites die forever. I don’t know how many websites or blogs that I find when I am doing domain name or keyword research that have one or two posts dated from two years ago. I know right away that someone had an idea to start an internet business and quit before they even have a chance to succeed. Internet marketing is not hard, but it takes a consistent effort and hard work to do the things that it takes to be successful. For example, if you have a blog and are not posting every two-three days, you will have a very difficult time ever getting top search engine positioning. The reason is very simple, if your niche is popular, some other blogger is posting more than that and gobbling up the back links, page rank and other criteria needed for top search engine positioning.
